Charity

Apart from providing sensibly priced medication and products to pet, horse and livestock owners, one of AniDrug's main aims is to raise money for veterinary linked charities.

We are currently supporting VETAID, a UK based charity to help train and equip a 'para-vet'.

Rural communities in Somaliland, Kenya, Mozambique and Tanzania are dependent on their livestock. Together we can improve the prosperity of rural communities by training and equipping a ‘para-vet’ who can spread expertise across rural villages and ensure the welfare of cows, sheep, goats, donkeys and chickens.

The costs: training a para-vet £250; his bagful of medicines £45; a bike (crucial, given the distances) £30 and so we are aiming for £315!

SOME INFORMATION FROM THE VETAID WEBSITE

Many of the poorest communities in Africa depend on animals - cattle, camels, goats and chickens - for their survival. VETAID works with these vulnerable communities to secure food sources and reduce poverty through a range of actions such as:

  • Providing animal health training and vaccinations
  • Supporting small business initiatives like beadwork and dairy produce
  • Distributing goats and chickens
  • Promoting land rights
  • Training in crop production
  • Providing water sources
  • Training local organisations and government staff

VETAID is also aware that the choices made by people in the UK can make an impact globally. To address this we provide school workshops and public presentations raising awareness of livestock and development issues.
